New Mexico Funeral Homes With Their Own Crematory
Which providers keep your loved one in their own care from pickup to the return of ashes — verified on each provider's own website, with published prices.
17 New Mexico funeral providers state on their own websites that they own and operate their crematory, across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Clovis, Las Cruces, Gallup, Silver City, Deming and Alamogordo. With these providers, your loved one stays in one company's custody from pickup through the return of ashes. Many other funeral homes contract the cremation to an outside crematory, which is common, licensed, and perfectly acceptable. This page simply helps families who prefer a single custodian find one.

Providers that use an outside crematory
These providers' own materials show the cremation is performed at a separate facility. That's a common arrangement — just worth knowing if custody matters to you.
- Trujillo Family Funeral Home — Albuquerque
Their price list includes "transfer to and from the crematory" — the cremation itself is performed at an outside crematory.
- Riverside Funeral Home — Santa Fe
Their own location page states: "Riverside Funeral Home - Santa Fe does not operate an on-site crematory or cemetery."
Every other provider in our directory hasn't said either way on its website, so we don't mark it. Ask directly — it's a reasonable question and any good funeral home will answer it plainly.
Questions to ask any provider
- "Do you own and operate your own crematory?" If not, ask which crematory you use and how long they've worked together.
- "Will my loved one remain in your custody from pickup through the return of ashes?"
- "How do you handle identification?" Many providers use a numbered identification tag that stays with your loved one through cremation.
- "Can family be present?" Some offer a witnessed cremation.
- "What is your total, all-in price?" New Mexico adds the Office of the Medical Investigator's $230 cremation-permit fee and gross receipts tax, and some providers list these separately. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, every funeral home must give you an itemized price list on request, even by phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Albuquerque funeral homes have their own crematory?
Riverside Funeral Home, French Funerals & Cremations, Direct Funeral and Cremation Services, CremateSimply Albuquerque, Salazar Mortuary, Reflections Chapel of Salazar Funeral Homes & Crematory, Director's Choice LLC and Cremation Service of New Mexico state on their own websites that they own and operate a crematory. Other Albuquerque providers may also have one but don't say so publicly, so ask any provider directly.
Does it matter whether a funeral home has its own crematory?
It is a matter of preference rather than quality. Many funeral homes contract the cremation itself to an outside, licensed crematory, which is common and regulated. A home with its own crematory keeps your loved one in one company's custody from pickup through the return of ashes, with fewer handoffs. If that matters to you, ask: "Do you own and operate your crematory, and will my loved one remain in your custody throughout?"
Can family members watch the cremation?
Some providers offer a witnessed cremation, where family can be present when it begins. Among providers with their own crematory, Riverside Funeral Home and CremateSimply Albuquerque mention witness cremation. Ask about scheduling and any added cost.
How much does cremation cost at a funeral home with its own crematory?
Among providers with their own crematory, the lowest published complete direct-cremation price we have verified is $995 at Director's Choice LLC. Some publish only itemized price lists, so ask for the total package price, and remember New Mexico adds the Office of the Medical Investigator's $230 cremation-permit fee and gross receipts tax on top of most quotes.
